Civil Rights

Our group chose to research the Civil Rights movement and its impact upon African Americans living in the U.S. from the late 1940’s up until present day.  America has come a long way over the past one hundred years to instill equal rights for all citizens, regardless of race, as well as to end discrimination amongst minority groups. We chose African Americans living in the U.S. during the Civil Rights movement as our marginalized group, because even still today we still see that this group in particular does not receive the same benefits as of a typical middle-class white male. Though the circumstances have evolved drastically over the years, and we have progressed tremendously to end discrimination entirely, there is still a given disadvantage from society’s standpoint for African Americans when compared to an average white man. We’ve all studied the Civil Rights Movement extensively during high school, and we are planning to research the evolution of the rights that were instilled during this time period, and the demonstrations that were held in order to promote equality for all American citizens.

  1. I think this is a really good marginalized group to research. You make some really good points in you post about how America use to be compared to how America is now when it comes to everyone having the same rights. People who were not white were treated unfairly in the past and I’m glad that that has changed and that everyone is beginning to have the same rights and benefits. I look forward to learning more information that you find out on this marginalized group. Nice work.

  2. What a great topic! I wish I was in class the day we picked groups, I would for sure want to be a part of this group. This is an topic that has affected our country for many years now. I have no doubts about how this project will turn out for you and your group. A+ material!
